GEO 009: Oceanography

Course Description

A general introduction to the geological, physical, chemical, and biological processes related to the characteristics and evolution of the ocean system. Explores the role oceans play in regulating climate and the cycling of elements on the Earth’s surface. Illustrates how the ocean system has been, and continues to be, one of the most important influences on life.

I honestly credit these discussion class sessions he led as the primary contributing factor to my success in this class overall, he was always so well organized and prepared that he made sure every last minute we had in class was packed with something useful, the way he would break down certain concepts and even work out these things on the whiteboard in the classroom was my saving grace for both of the midterms. The best discussion class I’ve had for any of my classes in two years!

Evan is the best TA. Very knowledgeable and understanding. Makes you feel like you could never ask a stupid question and will answer any and all questions you have. His lessons always dug deeper into what the material we were covering was on and framed it in a new light with more context so we could understand the concepts at a deeper level. No criticism at all— he’s 100% the best.

Evan is a very good teacher. You can tell he really understands and loves the subject. I’ve had teachers that hate the subject and in turn, make it not as fun to learn. He is a quick responder and an empathic person. He’s funny and it’s always a blast to talk to him. I hope I can take another class taught by him.

Evan Sneed was a great instructor who went above and beyond for his students. In addition to being readily available during office hours, his in-class lectures would be engaging and easy to break down and understand. He is a good teacher who only wants his students to succeed.

Greatest TA! I always enjoyed having my discussuion with him for Oceanography!! He was very good at helping us understand material we were stuck on. Very informative and his teaching style made it easy to participate
